Athletes of the month - January

Tumbling: Samantha Zachar

Samantha recently placed 12th in the Provincial C 12- category at the 1st Ontario Cup competing 2 new passes and scoring a new personal best. What is even more impressive is that two months ago she wasn't tumbling due to a broken toe! Way to go Coach Sam!

Trampoline: Brandon Tumber

Brandon has put in back to back consistent competitions this season placing 26th at Tour selection and then 13th at the 1st Ontario Cup. He is competing in Level A for the first time and is rising to the challenge! Good Job Brandon!

Double Mini: Sean Robertson

At the most recent 1st Ontario Cup, Sean was the only athlete to successfully compete a triple back! It was just 1 of 4 good passes that helped earn qualifying score in Youth National and his first Gold of the season! Impressive Sean!

Athlete of the month!

The coaching staff would like to apologize in the lateness of this posting. With tour selection and then the Holidays, we didn't get as much time as we would have liked to attack this posting! Congratulations to the selected athletes!

November 2009
Tumbling: Sydney Brown

Sydney finished off what can only be described as a phenomenal season with a 4th place finish at the 2009 World Age Group Championships. She was Canada's most consistent athlete in training and competition which is what led to such fantastic results!

Trampoline: Nick Bonnay

Nick, who is a Provincial C trampolinist, has made a lot of improvements in regards to his height and form while completing his trampoline routines. He seems to be improving on a daily basis!

December 2009
Tumbling: Jasmine Ellis

Jasmine hit 4 great passes at this months tour selection where she placed 2nd in the Novice 10-14 category! She was consistent from start to finish competing some new passes and a new skill - dbl pike - with incredible accuracy!

Trampoline: Ian Phillips

Ian performed a brand new d.d. record and new skills in his first ever national level competition where he placed 5th! He seems to be settling into the national category and has high aspirations to climb even higher this competitive season!

Double mini: Jelisa Joncas

Jelisa won the 2009 Tour event in Provincial A dbl mini! She achieved it by nailing 2 brand new passes with phenomenal execution. It was a great way to start the next competitive season!

Poll Results!!

If you answered 3, you are correct! Gymnastics Canada's tumbling program has only medaled 3 times in World Championship history. In 1996 the Women's team won a bronze medal. And then at the most recent Worlds the women's team once again earned a bronze along with an individual bronze by Ashley Speed. Emily Smith and Jordan Sugrim were part of the Bronze medal effort for Canada.
